Statement On Flooding In NSW Impacting ARTC Network

ARTC

Statement attributable to an ARTC spokesperson:

The weather system impacting the East Coast of New South Wales is forecast to intensify over the next 24 to 48 hours, with some areas between Newcastle and Coffs Harbour expected to receive up to 400mm of rain.

As a result, the North Coast rail corridor from Sydney to Brisbane remains closed and on the Hunter Valley Network water is over the tracks at Sandgate, affecting all rail traffic.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is working closely with freight operators with limited freight and coal services being run via alternative routes to and from the Port of Newcastle.

Additionally, limited bus services are replacing passenger trains on the Hunter and Central Coast and Newcastle line until further notice, and NSW TrainLink north coast and north west regional trains are being replaced by coaches.

Safety remains our top priority. ARTC will continue to undertake track inspections and share further updates on services returning to full operations.
