Statement on possible appointment of Mr. Moez Chakchouk as Minister of Transport and Logistics

UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, Mr Moez Chakchouk, has officially been nominated for a ministerial position by the Prime Minister-Designate of the Republic of Tunisia.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Ms Audrey Azoulay, would like to warmly congratulate Mr Chakchouk for this nomination, as well as the remarkable work he has done at the Organization since 2018, especially to protect press freedom and support innovative information and communication technologies in the fields of education, culture and science.

The Tunisian Parliament must now approve the proposed Government within the time limit specified in the country's Constitution. Pending this decision, Mr Chakchouk has been placed on special leave. In the interim, his duties will be performed by UNESCO's Deputy Director-General, Mr Xing Qu.
