Community painting Deadly Totem Poles in Steele Park, North Street West Kempsey

Community Housing Ltd worked with Kempsey Neighbourhood Centre and Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation to bring people together and provide positive experiences for community through their Deadly Totem Poles project.

As an inventive cultural art project, a community painting day took place on Tuesday 12 April during Youth Week with local artist Tyron joining community in painting and turning bollards into Deadly Totem Poles. The Deadly Totem Poles feature imagery significant to local Aboriginal culture and are located in Steele Park, West Kempsey.

Council contributed $2,490 to the project as part of Council's 2021-22 Community Grants Program under the Community Safety funding stream.
