Stolen Car Crash: Two Arrested After Pole Collision

Two suspects have been arrested after crashing into a Stobie pole and street sign at Waterloo Corner.

About 7.20am Thursday 25 June, police spotted a Volkswagen sedan displaying homemade number plates on Barton Crescent, Burton.

The driver allegedly sped off and after a short pursuit, lost control of the car and crashed into a Stobie pole and a street sign on Waterloo Corner Road.

A search of the driver allegedly located a quantity of tablets and a small bottle of liquid, both suspected to be drugs.

The driver, a 24-year-old Salisbury North man, was arrested and charged with numerous offences including dangerous driving to escape the police pursuit, driving disqualified, driving with unassigned plates and possession controlled drugs. He was refused police bail and will appear at Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Friday 26 June.

The passenger, a 35-year-old Burton woman, was arrested and charged with failing to answer questions to identify the driver and carrying a prohibited weapon, after a large knife was allegedly found in her waistband. She was bailed to appear at Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 5 August.

Investigations are continuing into the VW sedan.
