Stolen motor vehicles - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are investigating a number of incidents in which several vehicles were stolen from two properties in Alice Springs overnight.

Sometime between 5pm and 11pm unknown offenders gained entry into a building on Lindsay Avenue and stolen nine sets of car keys and four vehicles, Northern Territory Police say

Shortly after receiving the report, members observed one of the stolen motor vehicles driving recklessly around the Eastside and Gap Road area.

Police have since recovered three vehicles and arrested a 14-year-old female. The youth has been taken into custody and police bail will be opposed. Police continue to search for a white Hyundai Accent NT registration CB96NG which remains outstanding.

Superintendent Pauline Vicary said residents and business owners are encouraged to ensure their vehicles were locked and their car keys secured and out of sight when not in use.

"These people are actively looking for unlocked vehicles and unlawfully entering homes and businesses and stealing keys and cars,’ said Supt Vicary

"The Neighbourhood Watch NT Website has some excellent safety and security information and I encourage people to go online and look at this information."

"It is also important that motorists are vigilant on our roads, as these offenders have been witnessed by Police to drive recklessly throughout Alice Springs, and there was one incident overnight in which a stolen motor vehicle drove at a Police vehicle. Fortunately the member was able to avoid a collision."

Between 1am and 3am police responded to reports of multiple disturbances involving a large number of people in the CBD area.

Police arrived and the groups fled the area. While in the vicinity, members noticed damage to a hotel accommodation gate on Gregory Terrace and further investigations revealed a vehicle had been stolen from the premises.

The vehicle, a Toyota Hilux was recovered in Eastside this morning.

Investigations surrounding the unlawful entries and stolen motor vehicles continue.
