Police have arrested two teenagers after a stolen Mercedes Benz sedan was allegedly driven at high speed between Ipswich and Brisbane this morning.
Polair commenced a track of the white sedan bearing false number plates after it was observed in the Redbank area just after 9am.
The vehicle has been linked to several property related offences around the Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich areas since it was stolen from a Balmoral address overnight on September 16/17.
The Mercedes was observed by Polair travelling at high speed, at times on the wrong side of the road, overtaking vehicles within the Ipswich area.
Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle in a carpark on John Street, Rosewood at around 10am however the police four-wheel-drive was struck by the car as it fled the scene. No one was injured and the police vehicle sustained minor scratch damage to the front bumper.
At around 10am, police successfully deployed a Tyre Deflation Device at the intersection of Rosewood Marbug Quarry Road and Haigslea Malabar Road, Marburg.
The vehicle fled towards Brisbane and was again tracked by Polair who relayed information to officers on the ground, allowing them to deploy resources to various locations.
The Mercedes turned around and was driven back towards the Ipswich area via the Centenary and Ipswich motorways, again monitored by Polair with the assistance of other aircraft.
Around 11.40am the vehicle was abandoned in an underground carpark at a Collingwood Road shopping centre at Redbank where police located a 16 and 18 year-old male, arresting the pair.
The 16 and 18-year-old males, both from the Ipswich area, are currently assisting police with inquiries.
Investigations are ongoing into the movements of the vehicle since it was stolen, including any possible links to several property related offences.
