Stonnington to roll out anti-distraction campaign

Council is committed to doing everything it can to promote and improve road user safety, not only for the benefit of our community but for road users in general.

Earlier this year Council adopted a 'Towards Zero' Road Safety Strategy that will guide traffic and pedestrian safety initiatives across Stonnington for the next five years.

One of the priorities of the Strategy is to prepare and implement an anti-distraction campaign, aimed at road users and pedestrians, encouraging them to ignore distractions and stay alert.

A VicRoads 'Towards Zero Challenge – Distraction and Drowsiness' grant will help deliver the campaign, which is currently in the planning stages.

We are looking to roll-out anti-distraction initiatives later this year, which will include encouraging pedestrians to put their phones away and 'keep their eyes up and phones down' – especially around trams and when crossing the road.

Road safety is everyone's responsibility and, as a Council, we are doing everything we can to keep people safe on and around our roads.
