Strategic vision for East Wanneroo revealed

  • McGowan Government unveils draft structure plan outlining vision for East Wanneroo
  • Over the next 50 years the area will become home to more than 150,000 people
  • Community encouraged to have their say on draft plan
  • Planning Minister Rita Saffioti today released the McGowan Government's draft structure plan for East Wanneroo, revealing a detailed, long-term vision for one of Perth's fastest growing areas.

Developed in consultation with a community reference group, the East Wanneroo District Structure Plan outlines the steps that will ultimately see the precinct become home to 150,000 people over the next 50 years.

The State Government took on the job developing the structure plan for the area, given its significant development challenges.

The land ownership within East Wanneroo is highly fragmented and without a unique, coordinated approach, the area would have experienced difficulties in providing necessary infrastructure, resulting in poorly serviced, ad-hoc development outcomes.

Significant environmental features will be protected and enhanced, with a network of parkland links connecting parks with other public open spaces throughout the district.

The draft plan is available for public comment until Friday December 20. For more information visit https://www.dplh.wa.gov.au/east-wanneroo-dsp

As stated by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The State Government took on the challenge of developing a co-ordinated structure plan for East Wanneroo, to provide landowners with some certainty about the future of their area.

"The Government has worked with the community reference group to get to this stage, but it is now up to the community to provide further input.

"This model, of State Government led structure planning, has been implemented to ensure that all landowners have access to the same information and the same plan.

"I know many landowners have been frustrated over past decades with ad-hoc planning for the area, and a lack of certainty.

"I hope this process gives landowners certainty about their future."

As stated by Wanneroo MLA Sabine Winton:

"I am thrilled that the McGowan Government is delivering certainty for all landowners in East Wanneroo."

"The rezoning of East Wanneroo has been on the table for nearly 20 years and it is fantastic that our Planning Minister, the Hon Rita Saffioti has prioritised and delivered on this much needed vision and way forward."

"This announcement marks an important milestone in delivering on the community's long term vision and aspirations for East Wanneroo."

"I encourage residents to participate in this important consultation phase to ensure we create a vibrant and innovative structure plan that will become home to more than 150,000 people over the next 50 years."
