The community is invited to attend a fun-filled Stream Hill Community Day on Tuesday 14 April, aimed at supporting the protection and restoration of the endangered Illawarra Lowlands Grassy Woodlands and other precious local habitats, while celebrating nature, creativity and connection with the local environment.
Delivered in partnership with Wollongong City Council and Landcare Illawarra, the event builds on the success of last year's Community Day, which attracted more than 600 people.
This free, family-friendly event will offer a day of hands-on activities and outdoor experiences designed for all ages, creating opportunities for the community to learn, explore and connect with nature.
Children will be able to immerse themselves in nature-based play with the Junkyard Rascals, get creative making seed bombs, design vibrant boomerang art and discover the fascinating world of native bees and insects.
Adults and families can enjoy guided nature walks exploring local plants, birdlife and the nearby Landcare site, take part in a weaving workshop with Gumaara, and contribute to the environment through a community planting session.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of locally grown native species for them to take home from the plant giveaway, which is run by Guardians of the Grassy Woodland.
The event is a celebration of community and the unique natural environment of Stream Hill, bringing people together to learn practical ways to care for and appreciate the outdoors.
A free sausage sizzle will be provided at 12.00pm, giving attendees a chance to relax, connect and enjoy the day's activities together.
Stream Hill Community Day is an opportunity for friends, families and neighbours to come together, celebrate nature and strengthen community connections in a welcoming setting.
The day is part of the NSW Saving our Species program's partnership with the Biodiversity Conservation Trust, supporting ongoing work to protect and restore the endangered Illawarra Lowlands Grassy Woodlands and other precious local habitats.
