Streetscape Works Underway On Main Street

Streetscape upgrade works are now underway on Main Street, Pakenham near the Railway Hotel, as part of Stage 1 of the Pakenham Revitalisation project.

To reduce disruptions to traffic and local businesses, Stage 1 works have been broken down into six smaller phases. Phase 3 is now underway along the Railway Hotel side of Main Street, stretching from the roundabout and down towards the station.

Phase 3 works will include:

  • Pavement reconstruction and kerb upgrades
  • New accessible footpaths
  • Parking bays
  • Drainage and underground service improvement works
  • Lighting
  • Landscaping
  • Street furniture installation including seating and bins

To support these upgrade works, traffic conditions have been temporarily reconfigured along this stretch of Main Street. Some parking bays may be closed within the vicinity of the Railway Hotel, so that two-way traffic can be maintained and diverted. Parking will be reinstated once these works are complete. No changes are being made to parking along Main Street Central at this time.

Council will be working to minimise disruptions, however, please understand that you may notice temporary changes in the area, including:

  • Increased traffic
  • More noise, dust and lighting
  • Additional lighting
  • Temporary footpath closures
  • A temporary roundabout installed at Drake Place and Station Street

Access to all businesses and properties will be maintained via Drake Place, which is now reopened for traffic, parking and pedestrian access.

Traffic management will be in place to keep the community moving, and we kindly ask all road users to follow traffic signs and drive safely through the area.

All works included in the Stage 1 Main Street Gateway precinct are expected to be completed by mid-2026, conditions permitting.
