The SES Development Series is strengthening leadership across the WA public sector.
When Belinda Walker stepped into her role as a Deputy Director General Strategy and Performance at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER), she brought with her years of leadership experience. What she was looking for was not the basics, but clarity and a sharper understanding of how leadership and policy drive outcomes across the WA public sector.
Completing Using Policy to Shape WA and Leading and Influencing for Change from our SES Development Series helped guide her leadership through a very local lens.
"What surprised me most was that I knew a lot of the content. This was affirming and both courses have given me really good strategies to apply to my work, enhancing what I already know to achieve government priorities," Belinda says.
Just as valuable were the people in the room and the connections she made.
"You get to meet and form relationships with other senior executives and the smaller groups meant we were able to open up, be more vulnerable and have really good, honest conversations."
Building leadership capability across our sector is crucial. The SES Development Series shows that leading adaptively and adopting a 'forever curious, forever learning' mindset is important at all levels.
Belinda is now enrolled in 'Walking in 2 Worlds Together' in February to round out the suite of SES Development courses.
