Strengthening Moira With Community Grants

Five organisations will share in nearly $34,000 as part of Moira Shire Council's Community Strengthening Grants program.

The five projects target improvements for community and tourism facilities, and will receive funding under round one of the 2025/26 program's Major Grants stream. They are:

  • Yarrawonga and District Senior Citizens Club: Replace existing indoor bowling mat equipment ($5,000).
  • Picola United Football Netball Club: Instal three split-systems in the community rooms at the Picola Recreation Reserve ($10,000).
  • Barmah Community Group: Renew existing Tourist Information signs and update details and information on maps ($4,565).
  • Tungamah Kickstart Inc: Update and re-tile the showers at the RV park ($10,000).
  • Numurkah Youth Club Cricket Club: Instal power to the newly constructed viewing/storage facility ($4,136).

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM says the grants program plays an important role in supporting local community organisations.

"These grants are designed to support groups that offer diverse and inclusive services, facilities, events and activities to benefit the community," Dr Emonson said.

"Community organisations are vital to what makes Moira Shire a great place to live, and this program empowers local groups to bring their projects to life."

An application from the Katamatite 150th Anniversary Celebration Committee in this funding round was referred to the Quick Response stream of the Community Strengthening Grants. The committee received $5,000 towards the town's anniversary celebrations.

The 2025/26 Community Strengthening Grants program has a total budget of $185,000, and is offered via four streams: Major, up to $10,000 (up to two rounds each year); Quick Response, up to $1,000 (open all year); and Quick Response, up to $5,000 (open all year).

To date, $12,582 has been allocated to five applicants under the Quick Response streams and $33,701 has been allocated to five applicants under the Major stream. A further round of grants will open in 2026.
