Council has secured a Victorian Government grant to revitalise the Bayswater Retail Precinct, funding targeted shopfront upgrades for local businesses to boost street appeal and drive foot traffic. Set for completion by early 2027, the project celebrates the area's rich food and cultural diversity.
Among the participating traders is Anna from Lee Lee's Bakehouse, a precinct staple for nearly 40 years. Running the business alongside her four children, Anna blends traditional baking with subtle influences from her Vietnamese heritage. She notes, "We want to give it a fresh new look without losing the old-fashioned charm that our customers know and love."
Nearby, Molly established Fragrant Harbour Cafe to share authentic Hong Kong cha chaan teng culture with the Knox community. Her upcoming facade improvements will create a bright, inviting frontage. "A brighter, clearer, and more welcoming frontage will make it easier for people to notice us and understand what we offer before they even walk inside," Molly explains.
For Henry Nguyen, owner of My Little Saigon, the restaurant was the realization of a dream to share traditional Vietnamese family recipes. The planned shopfront enhancements will elevate the exterior to match the dining experience inside. "It's an opportunity to take greater pride in our restaurant and contribute to making the area more inviting for customers," says Henry.
By supporting local traders through these infrastructure improvements, Council and the Victorian Government are ensuring Bayswater remains a vibrant precinct of choice for residents and visitors alike.
