Strike Force Puma seize unregistered car, charge disqualified driver at Parramatta

Police have charged a driver after he was allegedly caught driving an unregistered car while disqualified earlier this week.

About 11.30am on Wednesday 20 May 2020, Strike Force Puma officers stopped a Honda Civic travelling west on Victoria Road, Parramatta.

Police will allege the driver, a 35-year-old man, was disqualified from driving from 2016 to 2022 and the car was unregistered.

The man was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (2nd offence) and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (2nd offence).

The man's car was confiscated for three months and he was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice, to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 21 July 2020.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command established Strike Force Puma to target unlawful driving in order to protect other road users.

"In this case, a driver who was allegedly disqualified and driving an unregistered vehicle posed a significant risk not only to himself, but to other road users," said Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy, from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

"With the road toll at 123 lives lost so far this year, those that shouldn't be driving are the focus of Strike Force Puma," said Assistant Commissioner Corboy.

In a separate incident, strike force officers charged a man after he was allegedly caught driving dangerously in Greenacre, about 10pm on Friday 8 May 2020.

Police will allege the 31-year-old man in Toyota Kluger drove onto the wrong side of the road, at about 110 km/h in a 60km/h zone and narrowly avoided a collision with oncoming cars.

He was stopped by police and later charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (2nd offence).

He's due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 1 July 2020.

"Now is the time for all road users to consider their own driving behaviour, be fully responsible for their actions, and help us drive down the road toll on NSW roads," said Assistant Commissioner Corboy.
