Structure fire in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service responded to a structure fire in Alice Springs on Thursday.

At around 12:30pm, Alice Springs Fire Station were dispatched to a residence on Elliott Street after multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) reported the fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene in just under eight minutes to find a fire in the laundry of the home. The occupants were alerted to the fire by the smell of smoke in the house and self-evacuated. Neighbours assisted the occupants and prevented the spread of the fire to the remainder of the house.

Firefighters undertook an internal search of the property and confirmed the fire had not spread to the roof cavity utilising thermal imagery cameras.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of having a working smoke detector in your home and the early warning of a fire that it provides.

The fire resulted in extensive damage to the laundry and an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
