Study Australia launches Work Readiness Micro-credential

Austrade

Following the success of a new South Asia Live Masterclass Series and supporting campaign, Study Australia Masterclasses are now freely available via our Masterclass Library at the Study Australia website.

Developed as an initiative of Austrade's Digital Education Hub program, the Study Australia Masterclass Live Series and Library project has been designed to engage the global student and education community. This includes current students unable to study onshore due to travel restrictions, as well as alumni, prospective students and partners.

The South Asia Live Masterclass Series (28 June – 6 July, 2021) was provided free of charge, with registrations of over 11,000 people for the event and Series promotional video views exceeding 10.3 million. The live, virtual event featured leading academics showcasing Australian thought leadership on global issues. It comprised seven masterclasses run over seven days, covering everything from space exploration and climate change to infectious diseases.

The South Asia Live Masterclass Series was presented in partnership with Times Higher Education (THE), with THE global sector experts providing an introductory analysis of Australia's expertise in the masterclass field of study. Following each live masterclass, an interactive Q&A session enabled audience members to ask questions of the academic presenter, creating interesting and though-provoking discussion.

An initial call out for academic presenters, via MIP Weekly, resulted in a high level of interest and a very large number of nominations. Thank you for your support! The resultant classes showcase the teaching and expertise of Australian academics who are global leaders in their fields:

  • Infectious Disease Research — Nobel Laureate Professor Barry Marshall, University of Western Australia
  • The 5th Industrial Revolution — Dr Catherine Ball, The Australian Nation University
  • Marine Biology in the Tropics — Associate Professor Dr Jodie Rummer, James Cook University
  • Extreme Heat and Global Health — Professor Ollie Jay, University of Sydney
  • The Exploration of Mars — Professor Paulo de Souza, Griffith University
  • A New Materials Revolution — Professor Veena Sahajwalla, University of New South Wales
  • Strategy in an Uncertain World – Vivek Chaudhri, University of Melbourne (Melbourne Business School)

All masterclasses are now freely available via the Study Australia Masterclass Library at the Study Australia website. In support of ongoing engagement, the second phase of the South Asia campaign has been designed to drive traffic to the Library. As of 21 July 2021, this phase has reached over 4.3 million people across South Asia, with 1.2 million click-throughs.

The Study Australia Masterclass Live Series and Library project forms one of a range of sector recovery initiatives designed to build the number of students choosing Australia, and to help foster a Study Australia global community.

With global reach and application, the Study Australia Masterclass Library will become a permanent feature of the Study Australia website. Additional classes and live events also planned over the coming 12 months. We strongly encourage you to share the link to the Library with current students (onshore and offshore), prospective students globally, and alumni, agents, partners and sector stakeholders worldwide.
