Submissions Open For Mental Health Reform Feedback

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is giving Victorians a chance to have their say on the reformed mental health system, as vital work continues to rebuild the system from the ground up.

Consultation for the draft Mental Health and Wellbeing Outcomes and Performance Framework is now open - inviting all mental health stakeholders including consumers, families, carers, supporters and professionals for their input as part of a survey on the reformed mental health system.

The Labor Government is bringing lived experience to the heart of the mental health system and this survey will help analyse whether the reforms are helping Victorians receive the help and support they need.

Delivering on a key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System - this performance framework ensures transparency and accountability, which is the key to delivering a successful system.

The survey will uncover the strengths of the draft framework, identify what is missing and provide a vision of what the new system will look like - working with mental health consumers, families and their supports every step of the reform process.

The Government has invested record amounts in Victoria's mental health and wellbeing system since the Royal Commission's final report was released and it's important that this funding is delivering the world-class system that all Victorians deserve.

The Victorian Budget 2022/23 included $1.3 billion for mental health and wellbeing initiatives - building on last year's record investment of $3.8 billion.

Since the Royal Commission delivered its final report, new services have opened and more Victorians are getting the help they need, with work underway on 90 per cent of the recommendations.

The Engage Victoria consultation is available at: engage.vic.gov.au/MHW-outcomes-and-performance-framework and closes on 25 September.

As stated by Minister for Mental Health Gabrielle Williams

"Listening to the feedback of consumers, families, carers, supporters and professionals and then acting on that feedback is critical to delivering the best possible mental health system."

"Transparency and accountability are the key to delivering any successful program - we are asking Victorians what has been done right, and what else we can do to provide a world-class mental health system."

"We've embarked on the biggest reform of the mental health system in our nation's history - and we're not wasting a minute building a system that works for every Victorian, no matter where they live."
