A Sudan-born man is expected to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court today (2 May, 2025) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.
The AFP charged the man, 38, today (2 May, 2025), after he was arrested by Victoria Police in Melbourne.
It is alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa by failing to maintain his monitoring device and failing to observe his residential curfew obligations.
The man has been charged with:
- Seven counts of failing to maintain an electronic monitoring device, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth); and
- Seven counts of failing to abide by a specified curfew, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).
These offences each carry a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
