Sudan-born Man Charged With Visa Breaches In Victoria 12 August

A Sudan-born man is set to appear before Melbourne Magistrate's Court today (12 August, 2025) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 38, yesterday (11 August, 2025), after he was located in Melbourne.

It will be alleged the man breached one of the conditions of his Commonwealth visa by failing to maintain his electronic monitoring device on three occasions, between 13 July, 2025, and 11 August, 2025.

The AFP will also allege these offences took place while the man was on conditional bail.

The man has been charged with:

  • Three counts of failing to comply with electronic monitoring conditions, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth). This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and/or a $99,000 fine.
  • Three counts of commit an indictable offence while on bail, contrary to section 30 of the Bail Act 1977 (Vic). This offence carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment.

He first appeared in Melbourne Magistrate's Court yesterday (11 August, 2025) where he was remanded in custody to appear before the same court today (12 August, 2025).
