Summer Roadside Dining boosts Stonnington's spirits

City of Stonnington's Roadside Dining Program has been a great success since its introduction in October 2021, with many locals and visitors venturing out for the first time since Melbourne's lock-downs finally eased.

A large number of businesses took part in the Council's popular program, taking advantage of Council's fee waiver and courtesy infrastructure.

Businesses reported bumper trade during the summer period as a result of this program and many have indicated their interest in participating again for the 2022-23 season.

City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Jami Klisaris said that the Summer Roadside Dining Program breathed life into the streets of Stonnington.

"The Program enabled businesses to continue trading while some COVID-19 restrictions were in place, and allowed the community to enjoy the wonderful hospitality that Stonnington has to offer.

"We've had some lovely warm weather, and with daylight saving, many have taken the opportunity to enjoy new restaurants as well as some firm favourites.

"I'm really keen to see people venturing out over winter too. Some restaurants will be keeping their outdoor spaces alive, by providing covered, warm and cosy places to dine with friends or family", Cr Klisaris said.

Businesses who would like to continue to offer roadside dining after 30 April this year can apply for an Annual Roadside Dining Permit.
