Sunbury Commuter Car Park One Step Closer 22 December

Commuters at Sunbury station will soon find it easier to catch the train with works to build a new multi-deck car park one step closer to getting underway.

Hume City Council has awarded the contract to local company Kane Constructions to deliver 300 new commuter parking spaces, plus more than 100 spaces for shoppers and traders across four levels.

The new multi-deck car park will be built in central Sunbury and feature accessible parking for people with disabilities, enhanced lighting and improved signage within the precinct.

It will not only make it easier for commuters catching the train – it will also alleviate pressure on neighbouring streets which are often used for parking by commuters, shoppers and shop tenants.

Led by Hume City Council, the upgrade is jointly funded with support from the Victorian Government's Car Parks for Commuters Program, the Victorian Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution, andthe Australian Government.

The Sunbury Station car park is part of the broader Commuter Car Park Upgrades – Northern Lines project, to which the Australian Government has committed $70 million towards.

Since 2014, 15,000 new and upgraded commuter parking spaces have been delivered at stations across the state, and the Victorian Government is on track to deliver an additional 6,000 spaces.

Works on the new multi-deck car park at Sunbury Station will commence on site in mid-2023 with design development underway.
