Supercars night race to be trialled at Barbagallo Raceway

  • Perth to be only Supercars night race in 2019
  • Supported by State Government through Tourism WA

Perth will host a Supercars night race for the first time in 2019.

A night race was trialled in Sydney earlier this year and the event attracted larger audiences compared to traditional day races, including more families.

The revamped event will be the only night race to be staged in Australia next year.

Supercars Championship announced the Perth event as part of its 2019 season calendar today, confirming it will be held at Barbagallo Raceway from May 2 to 4.

As noted by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

"The State Government, through Tourism Western Australia, is pleased to be supporting this great initiative by Supercars Championship.

"Night races will provide a point of difference between Perth and other race events on the Supercars calendar, and we're hoping this will entice more people to travel to Western Australia for the event.

"Being live on TV on the East Coast alongside iconic events such as the Bathurst 1000, will also help us promote Perth as an exciting travel destination in some of our key domestic markets.

"Promoting a calendar of events that prioritises visitation to and around Western Australia, and delivering greater tourism outcomes from existing events such as Supercars is a priority of Tourism WA's Two-Year Action Plan."
