Flinders University is responding to the tragic bushfires sweeping across South Australia and the nation.
Due to the unprecedented scale of the current emergency, the University has pledged to pay special leave entitlements to staff who are CFS volunteers for up to four weeks. This includes re-crediting any annual leave where there has been an overlap.
Staff whose home has been lost or damaged can also claim special leave with pay for up to four weeks
Flinders University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling says the University will do all it can to support students and staff to deal with their circumstances during these difficult times.
"My thoughts are with all of those already affected and also those still under threat … and I feel certain that every member of the Flinders University community would join me in wishing you well in the weeks and months ahead.
"Our students may also have been affected and University staff will of course do their utmost to support them as they start or return to their studies."
Staff can contact People and Culture about Special Leave pay and Community Services Leave entitlements.
Counselling support is available for staff from the Employee Assistance Program and for students via out-of-hours crisis services or the University's regular health counselling and disability service during business hours.
Students in need are also able to access emergency financial assistance through the Flinders University Student Association.
