Supporting Tasmanians with their energy costs

Guy Barnett,Minister for Energy

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to providing electricity customers with support to cushion the blow from the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are committed to easing cost of living pressures for Tasmanians, and we have delivered that through a number of measures, including a power price decrease from 1 July 2020.

Aurora Energy is also investing $5 million to assist customers with bill relief, waiving fees or charges, and a range of other support measures.

I understand the individual raised by Labor today has been contacted by Aurora and offered assistance, demonstrating these measures are working to support Tasmanians. If Labor truly cared about helping people, they would have raised this matter before today, rather than using it for their own political gain in Parliament.

If there are any customers that need assistance with their power bills, I encourage them to contact Aurora through the website or through their customer service centre on 1300 13 2003 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm).

We are also supporting Tasmanian businesses that support the thousands of family members that depend on them for income with approximately 34,000 small businesses benefiting from the electricity bill waiver at a cost of up to $27 million, as well as a new $1,000 grant for customers in embedded networks.

We will continue to monitor the impacts on energy users arising from COVID-19 to ensure Tasmanians are supported through this challenging time
