Supreme Court Judge appointed new Senior Judge Administrator

Queensland Supreme Court Judge Justice Helen Bowskill has been appointed the court's new Senior Judge Administrator.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Shannon Fentiman congratulated the Honourable Justice Bowskill on her appointment.

"Justice Bowskill brings extensive skills and breadth of experience to her new role as Senior Judge Administrator, who is responsible for the administration of the Supreme Court's Trial Division," Minister Fentiman said.

"Her Honour graduated from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 1995 with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and achieved first class honours and was the recipient of the University Medal from QUT.

"Justice Bowskill was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland's Trial Division in 2017, after more than two-and-a-half years as a Judge of the District Court, where she also heard matters in the Childrens Court of Queensland and the Planning and Environment Court of Queensland.

"Her Honour was admitted as a barrister to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1998 and was later appointed Queen's Counsel in 2013.

"As a barrister, Her Honour practised widely in public, administrative and commercial law, with a particular focus on native title law.

Justice Bowskill will replace Justice Ann Lyons who is retiring on 24 August 2021.

"Justice Lyons was appointed to the role nearly four years ago on 24 August 2017 and I again want to pay tribute to her for her service, professionalism and management of the Trial Division," Minister Fentiman said.
