Surge Targets Domestic Violence, Crime Links

NSW Police have charged 22 people following an operation targeting alleged organised crime offenders with a history of domestic violence.

The Domestic and Family Violence Command established Operation DFVC Surge 2026 to deploy additional police resources to locate and arrest offenders wanted on outstanding warrants, carry out apprehended domestic violence orders and bail compliance checks and to prevent serious violent offending.

On Thursday 30 April 2026, officers from the Domestic and Family Violence Command led the coordinated operation across the South West Metropolitan Region.

Officers from every Police Area Command in the region took part, supported by specialist officers from the Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders Team, Raptor Squad, State Operations & Emergency Management Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

During the operation, 22 people were arrested and charged with 56 offences.

Police conducted 136 apprehended domestic violence order (ADVO) compliance checks, with four breaches identified, and more than 44 bail compliance checks.

Officers conducted seven firearms prohibition order (FPO) searches on offenders with significant domestic violence history and known links to organised crime networks.

Police seized anabolic steroids and an electronic control weapon.

The Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, Yasmin Catley said domestic violence was an insidious crime and police were coming after those responsible with everything they've got.

"For too long, domestic violence was hidden behind closed doors but now it's being brought into the open and police are making sure it stays there," Minister Catley said.

"These results aren't just numbers – it is police knocking on doors, making arrests and putting offenders before the courts in numbers we've never seen before.

"Under this Government, victims are being heard, offenders are being hunted and police are right at the centre of that shift.

"If you think criminal behaviour stays behind closed doors, think again. Operation Surge is designed to find those doing the wrong thing and these results show just that."

Capability, Performance and Youth Command Assistant Commissioner Jason Weinstein said Operation DFVC Surge 2026 would use all available resources to disrupt and stop organised crime offenders.

"Operation Surge is another way we're putting pressure on those involved or associating with organised crime networks," Assistant Commissioner Weinstein said.

"The offenders charged are alleged to have committed terrible domestic violence offences which we know are preludes to serious and fatal consequences for victims.

"Whether offenders are committing domestic violence, public place shootings, drug supply or any other serious crime, Operation Surge gives us the capability to intervene early and disrupt offenders before further harm occurs.

"This operation is another way we are intervening, locking up perpetrators, protecting victims and dismantling the structures that allow organised crime to thrive which is an ongoing risk to community safety."

Operation Surge will be conducted in North West Metropolitan Region in June.
