Surreal worlds take over ArtPlay this summer

A surreal world imagined, developed and designed by children, for children, is set to wow audiences as Scrapatorium returns to ArtPlay this January.

Scrapatorium is an immersive exhibition constructed by 25 eight to twelve years olds at City Of Melbourne's premier creative arts studio ArtPlay.

Whether it's exploring a fortress of puzzles, having cups of tea with a room full of colourful llamas or travelling through tunnels of shimmering ribbons, Scrapatorium promises something for everyone.

Scrapatorium was created by children in partnership with multi-disciplinary artist Sue Davis, who helped young minds realise their vison over a five week program.

Children were guided through the creative process, from early ideas to design and installation, with each young artist contributing six concepts for inclusion in the final project. The resulting work is an eclectic space bound to help relieve school holiday boredom.

Scrapatorium is part of ArtPlay's By Kids for Kids program, which places children's imaginations at the centre of the creative process giving them agency to create art experiences that specifically relate to them and how they see the world.

The exhibition is back by popular demand from Saturday 11 January to Saturday 24 January, (Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm).
