The Ellen and Hans Hermer Foundation awards six grants annually in recognition of significant contributions to society or outstanding scientific achievements. The grant includes an award of 285,000 DKK. Among this year's recipients are Susanne Brix Pedersen, Professor, Research Group Leader, and Head of the Section for Medical Biotechnology.
Susanne Brix Pedersen is awarded the grant in recognition of her extraordinary efforts in assuming leadership of the Section for Medical Biotechnology following the passing of Professor Ulrik Auf dem Keller. During a period marked by great vulnerability and uncertainty within the section, she successfully ensured research continuity and further developed the section's potential. Her leadership has led to strong research output and a revitalized sense of professional cohesion.
In parallel with her leadership role, Susanne Brix Pedersen has maintained impressive research productivity. Her work on the interplay between diet, gut microbiota, and immune response has been published in some of the world's most prestigious scientific journals.
Furthermore, Susanne Brix Pedersen has made significant contributions to society and research policy through her roles as Vice Chair and, most recently, Chair of the Independent Research Fund Denmark of Technology and Production.
Most recently, she has joined the leadership team at the Technical University Hospital.
