Suspicious vehicle fire in Artarmon

Police have established a crime scene at a unit block in Artarmon following a suspicious vehicle fire overnight, NSW Police say.

Just after 10pm (Friday 21 December 2018), emergency services were called to a unit block on Hampden Road, following reports a vehicle was on fire in the basement carpark, filling the building with smoke.

Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze. The car was destroyed.

Residents were evacuated from the building, with two people treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

A crime scene has been established, which is being forensically examined as officers from North Shore Police Area Command investigate the cause of the fire.

A 44-year-old man was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station.
