Community drop-in sessions will be held this month as planning and investigations continue into the Swan Hill Bridge replacement project.
Transport for NSW Executive Director Partnerships and Integration South, Cassandra Ffrench, said the sessions will provide more information about the project, including details of the preferred options report released in December.
"These sessions are open to anyone who lives, works in or visits the Swan Hill area and are also an opportunity to meet the Bridge replacement project team," Ms Ffrench said.
"In late 2025, we released the preferred options report which confirmed that the existing Swan Hill Bridge no longer meets the community's needs. To address its poor condition and high maintenance cost, the preferred option is to replace it with a new bridge in the same location.
"The report outlines key features of the proposed new bridge, detour plans during construction, constraints influencing the alignment and design, and impacts to the surrounding area.
"The report also shortlists new bridge alignment options and highlights the need for a temporary bridge during construction."
Details of the community drop-in sessions:
- Monday 16 March - The Community Tree Space on Campbell Street, Swan Hill between 4pm and 6.30pm.
- Tuesday 17 March – Riverside Park on Monash Drive, opposite the Swan Hill pool entrance, between 9.30am and 12 noon.
Replacing Swan Hill Bridge has been declared a State Significant Infrastructure project, which requires an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) as part of the NSW planning and development process.
Transport is at the start of the EIS process and is currently seeking contractors to prepare the bridge's concept design and its environmental assessment. Related Victorian environment and heritage planning approvals are being developed at the same time.
Transport will keep the community and stakeholders updated as the EIS progresses.
The community will also be consulted when the concept design and environmental assessment are displayed for feedback.
