Swan Hill Rural City Council is pleased to invite the community to take part in a range of events across the municipality over the long weekend, aligned with the national Australia Day themes of Respect, Reflect and Celebrate.
Mayor Cr Stuart King said celebrations would begin on Sunday, 25 January with Citizenship Ceremonies and Australia Day Award Ceremonies in both Robinvale and Swan Hill.
"These ceremonies are a highlight of the Australia Day weekend, as we warmly welcome our newest Australian citizens and recognise individuals, groups and students who make an outstanding contribution to our community," Cr King said.
"The Australia Day Awards, including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and Community Event of the Year, celebrate the people whose passion and commitment help make our region such a great place to live."
The Robinvale Ceremonies will take place at the Robinvale Community Arts Centre from 9am, and the Swan Hill Ceremonies will take place at the Swan Hill Town Hall from 6pm.
Celebrations will continue Monday, 26 January, with a range of community-led events planned across the municipality.
"Australia Day breakfasts and gatherings are a cherished tradition, bringing people together to share food, conversation and a sense of belonging," Cr King said.
"I'm delighted to see our local service clubs playing such an important role in delivering events for the community."
Cr King said this year, Shared Connections will take on an exciting new format, running from the Swan Hill Visitor and Cultural Experience Centre, at Pioneer Settlement, on Monday, 26 January from 11am to 4pm.
"This special event celebrates culture, community and connection – and a chance for families to come together and experience stories, perspectives and traditions that shape our region" he said.
With free bush‑tucker‑inspired tastings and hands‑on cultural activities such as basket weaving, there's something meaningful for every age to enjoy. It's a welcoming space where families can learn alongside one another, share new experiences and take part in a day that strengthens our sense of belonging as a community."
Cr King encouraged residents and visitors to take part in the celebrations.
"Australia Day in Swan Hill Rural City is about inclusion, recognition and community spirit, and I encourage everyone to join in and enjoy what promises to be a wonderful weekend."
