Swap Your Weeds For FREE Indigenous Plants

Are weeds causing trouble in your garden? Why not trade them in for some free, local native plants at the upcoming Trees for Weeds swap event in Pakenham?

Cardinia Shire Council is excited to partner with the Cardinia Environment Coalition to host a Trees for Weeds swap event on Saturday 31 May 2025.

Residents are encouraged to bring along small clippings of their weeds, and experts will be available to help identify weed species and provide management and treatment tips for your garden and property.

Residents will be able to trade in their weed clippings and take a collection of FREE native tube stock home with them.

Time: 9am – 12pm

Location: Cardinia Environment Coalition Nursery, 62 Cameron Way, Pakenham

Cardinia Shire residents are welcome to attend, and pre-registration is not required.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jack Kowarzik encourages the community to get involved.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to put your green thumbs to work, find ways to enhance your garden, and contribute to environmental sustainability."

"Not only will you gain valuable insights into identifying and managing weeds in your garden by attending our Weeds for Trees event, but you will also come away with a range of free indigenous plants to take home." Mayor Kowarzik said.

Please note that only small clippings of weeds will be accepted. Green waste cannot be dropped off and will not be accepted at this event.
