Sydney Man Charged in String of Armed Robberies

A man will appear in court tomorrow charged over a string of alleged armed robberies across Sydney overnight.

Just before 5.30pm yesterday Monday (8 January 2024), a man allegedly entered licensed venue at Branxton, in the Hunter region, where he demanded cash before fleeing empty handed.

In a second incident, a man entered a licensed venue on Rocky Point Road, Ramsgate just after midnight (Tuesday 9 January 2024), where he demanded cash before fleeing empty handed.

About 1am, police attended a third incident at a licensed venue on King Georges Road, Beverly Hills, after a man demanded cash, before stealing a packet of cigarettes and running out of the venue.

About 20 minutes later, police attended a licensed venue on Haldon Street, Lakemba, after a man demanded cash from staff before leaving empty handed in a vehicle.

A short time after, police attended a licensed venue on King Georges Road, Wiley Park, after a man allegedly threatened staff with a screwdriver, stole a sum of cash, and fled in a white utility.

Shortly afterwards, officers from Campsie Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol stopped a white utility on Kathleen Street, Wiley Park.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, was arrested with the assistance of the Dog Unit and taken to Campsie Police Station.

He has been charged with two counts of demand money with menaces, robbery with an offences weapon, two counts of robbery, drive whilst suspended, drive unregistered vehicle and use uninsured motor vehicle.

The Wiley Park man has been bail refused to appear at Bankstown Local Court tomorrow (10 January 2024)
