As put by Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston, Northland District Crime Manager:
An investigation is underway after a sudden death at a residential address in Haruru falls, near Paihia, in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called to the property about 4.25am, after a report that a man had been found unresponsive.
He was pronounced deceased a short time later.
His death is currently being treated as unexplained, and a post-mortem examination will take place tomorrow.
A 56-year-old woman was arrested at the scene in relation to events that preceded the man's death.
She has been charged with assault, and is due to appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Monday 24 August.
