In 2023, and for the first time in its history, WorldPride will head to the Southern Hemisphere with Sydney hosting the world's largest global LGBTQIA+ celebration from 17 February to 5 March.
On the 44th anniversary of the first Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, 1,000 people formed a progress flag to observe the milestone and the Sydney WorldPride 2023 official events launch.

Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade, Minister for Tourism and Sport and Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said Sydney WorldPride 2023 showcases our incredible and inclusive city to a global audience and will re-establish Sydney as a mustvisit destination for visitors.
"With 500,000 people expected to attend the event, Sydney WorldPride is the biggest summer event of 2023," Mr Ayres said.
"The NSW Government continues to invest in world-class entertainment, hospitality and events like Sydney WorldPride 2023 to reach our Visitor Economy Strategy target of $65 billion in total visitor expenditure by 2030."
Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin said events like Sydney WorldPride 2023 help highlight the city's cultural offerings and is a calling to come together and participate in a global movement.
"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase Sydney and its accessibility, creativity, innovation and unique experiences," Mr Franklin said.
"The fabulous theme for the festival, GATHER, DREAM, AMPLIFY, was developed in partnership with our extraordinary Aboriginal and LGBTQIA+ communities which acknowledge the traditional custodians of Australia and represents our commitment to equality and inclusion.
"It's been a tough couple of years but now Sydney is open and accessible for all. We are ready to welcome and celebrate our diversity and cultural offerings with visitors from around the world, and we look forward to seeing you in February."
Tickets go on sale on 15 July. Locals and visitors alike will be able to access presale tickets from 09:00 AEST on 11 July. Tickets go on sale to the general public from 09:00 AEST on 15 July.
