Sylvia Sayers Named 2026 Diamonds of Devonport Ambassador

Devonport City Council Tasmania

The Diamonds of Devonport program has proudly announced Sylvia Sayers as the 2026 Diamonds of Devonport Ambassador, recognising her outstanding and long-standing contribution to community life across the North West Coast.

A respected advocate, leader and connector, Sylvia has been an integral part of the Devonport community for more than 30 years. Originally from Germany, she settled in Devonport in 1981 and has since dedicated her professional career and volunteer efforts to strengthen local connections, support youth development and champion business growth.

Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman said Sylvia's appointment was a fitting recognition of her lifelong service to the city.

"Sylvia Sayers is a true champion of our community and a deserving Diamonds of Devonport Ambassador," Mayor Jarman said.

"Her leadership, generosity and commitment to strengthening connections across Devonport have made a lasting difference to countless individuals and organisations."

Sylvia was herself recognised as a Diamond of Devonport in 2020, and her appointment as Ambassador reflects her continued commitment to giving back to the community she proudly calls home.

As General Manager of local radio stations 7AD and SeaFM Devonport, Sylvia plays a vital role in promoting community news, events and stories, helping keep listeners informed and connected across the region.

Mayor Jarman said Sylvia's influence spans media, business and community sectors.

"Through her work in local media and her extensive volunteer involvement, Sylvia has helped amplify local voices and support the growth of our city," she said.

"She is a role model for emerging leaders and an advocate for a strong, inclusive Devonport."

Sylvia's extensive community involvement includes Meercroft Aged Care, Zonta International, Sugar & Spice initiatives, and the Devonport Business & Professional Women's Club, which she helped establish. She also made history as the first female President of the Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry, supporting emerging leaders through the creation of the Young Leaders Group and Retailers Committee.

Sylvia will speak as the Diamonds of Devonport Ambassador at the Diamonds of Devonport event to be held at paranaple convention centre on Wednesday 4 March 2026.

Tickets are on sale now from the paranaple arts centre.

Reflecting on her appointment, Sylvia said, "Community is not just where we live - it's what we build together," a philosophy that continues to guide her lifelong service to Devonport and its people.
