Symphony on waterfront coming in 2023

Devonport City Council Tasmania

Devonport will host the prestigious Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra for Symphony on the Waterfront on Saturday, 11 February 2023.

To be held in the city's new waterfront park, the free community event is being sponsored by the new Novotel Devonport and supported by Devonport City Council.

Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff said it was an honour for Devonport to host the event, which has been on the city's wish list for years.

Cr Rockliff said up to 5000 people were expected to attend the outdoor concert with pre-concert entertainment planned for the entire family.

"This is such a great event to host in our city and a privilege to give back to our community through this free concert in partnership with the TSO and the new Novotel Devonport," Cr Rockliff said.

"For anyone who has been to the TSO's Symphony Under the Stars, you know what a magical atmosphere it creates and for those who haven't been, now is your chance to experience something truly amazing.

"This really is a celebration gift to our community and an opportunity to showcase what the new waterfront park can do in terms of its space and ambience to host these types of events going forward."

Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chief Executive Officer Caroline Sharpen said the TSO was honoured to be part of the event, celebrating Devonport's beautiful new waterfront park.

"We have been so inspired by the music making that happens across the northwest of Tasmania," Ms Sharpen said.

"To give something back to the volunteers, participants and community members that make this possible is a huge joy for us."

Novotel Devonport General Manager Ana Royal said Novotel Devonport is thrilled to partner with the TSO to bring Symphony on the Waterfront to life for the local community.

"It will be a must-see performance and we look forward to welcoming guests staying with us for this spectacular event," Ms Royal said.

"We are passionate about supporting the arts and delivering unique experiences for our guests."
