Camden Council is inviting residents to paws what they're doing to celebrate National Pet Day this Saturday (11 April) by adopting or fostering a furry, four-legged friend.

At the heart of Council's celebrations is the Animal Care Facility, which plays a key role in rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming lost and surrendered animals across the Camden area. The facility provides a safe haven for animals in need and supports positive outcomes for pets and the wider community.

For those looking to add a furry friend to the family, there are plenty of lovable companions waiting to be met. From playful pups to curious kittens, each animal has its own unique personality and is ready to find a loving home. Council's Animal Care Facility is currently caring for a high number of cats and kittens and is particularly excited to find forever homes for these purring residents.

It currently costs $275 to adopt a dog and $50 to adopt cats and kittens, with the adoption fees going towards vaccinations, microchipping, food and ongoing care for animals at the facility.

For residents not quite ready to commit to adoption, Council's Cat Foster Care Program offers the purr-fect middle ground. The program allows residents and some eligible non-residents to temporarily care for cats and kittens in need until they are ready to be adopted into their fur-ever homes.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said National Pet Day was the ideal time to consider opening your heart and home.

"National Pet Day honours our pets and encourages the adoption of animals in need," she said.

"Every animal in our care has its own personality and story and I know our team loves helping them find the right match.

"Adoption is incredibly rewarding and fostering is a fantastic option for those who want to make a difference without a long-term commitment. Who doesn't want to be greeted by a happy tail wagging or a contented purr and snuggle at the end of the day?"

Camden Council is also gearing up to celebrate Paws in the Park on Sunday 17 May, 10am-2pm, at Camden Bicentennial Equestrian Park. The much-loved event celebrates our four-legged friends and features a two-kilometre dog walk; pet and general product stalls; a Pawtastic Parade; exciting activities, talks and demonstrations; an inclusive space; and so much more.
