Taking Storytime out of your library at Nowingi Place

Mildura Rural City Council Libraries is offering Sunraysia residents the chance to combine reading, gentle exercise and the joy of sharing stories in a unique and fun event at Nowingi Place this month.

StoryWalk® allows participants to follow a series of story boards around the Nowingi Place site, completing actions and activities as they go.

This month's event is based on Aoife Greenham's Big Dance, which is a story about the freedom to be yourself and the fun of joining in.

Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage Helen Healy said this was a great way to encourage younger residents to read, while allowing them to enjoy time outdoors and exercise.

"There aren't too many events that combine reading, exercise and socialising, but our event at Nowingi Place does all of this and more and is a great way to promote reading among our younger residents," Cr Healy said.

"The other positive about this format is that participants become part of the story by completing actions as they make their way around each story board at their own pace."

StoryWalk® at Nowingi Place will be held on Wednesday 16 March from 10am to 12pm.

Taking part is easy, simply check-in with library staff at the pop-up library that will be set up at Nowingi Place and follow the story boards from there.

In addition to the event itself, participants will be able to meet and chat with library staff, play some of the library's 'big games' and collect a free library bag.

Given this is an outdoor event people are welcome to bring along a picnic snack to enjoy, and encouraged to wear a hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and bring a water bottle.
