Taking WA Police Force into modern age

  • $39 million contract awarded to NEC to upgrade WA Police Force digital infrastructure
  • 200 WA Police sites to be enabled with high bandwidth network connectivity
  • More reliable and secure communications network for every WA Police officer
  • Police Minister Michelle Roberts has announced a $39 million deal with NEC Australia to upgrade the digital infrastructure at Western Australia Police stations around the State.

The improved infrastructure will form the backbone for the digital transformation of the WA Police Force.

The work will result in a doubling of the bandwidth to Police stations and other WA Police Force sites around the State.

This will enable greater data exchange, and with the introduction of body worn cameras, directly support frontline operations.

Importantly, the network will be enabled with end to end encryption to ensure absolute protection for sensitive police communications and greater resilience against cyber security attacks.

Over the next 12 months 200 police sites across 2.5 million square kilometres of WA will be enabled with high bandwidth.

As part of the works, a state of the art 'GovNext-ICT' hosted Cisco IP Telephony Service will be deployed State-wide to all WA Police Force locations.

As stated by Police Minister Michelle Roberts:

"This critical work will form the backbone for the future modernisation of the WA Police Force.

"It will directly support frontline operations, by enabling greater bandwidth and data exchange for our digital policing initiatives.

"To combat 21st century crime, we need a 21st century Police Force and this is one of a suite of initiatives the McGowan Government is funding, to ensure our police can do their jobs better and keep us safe."
