The Kanamaluka/Tamar Infrastructure and Amenities Master Plan has been released, presenting a community vision for a new cultural and recreational precinct along the upper estuary.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Kerry Vincent, said the new master plan had been developed by the Tamar Estuary Management Taskforce (TEMT) through extensive community consultation in 2025.
"This plan is based on months of consultation with community and business stakeholders, and we have turned it into something practical and doable," Minister Vincent said.
"The community wants to see development around the foreshore to enhance the liveability, serviceability and connectivity of Northern Tasmania's largest city.
"The master plan is rich with ideas for a precinct-by-precinct approach to new infrastructure and amenities, designed to complement other possible developments around the foreshore."
The new master plan was a top priority identified in the 2023 10-year Vision for kanamaluka/Tamar and associated implementation plan.
Key proposals in the master plan include:
Minister Vincent said TEMT was already working on bringing the concepts to life with members collaborating to secure funding across all three levels of government.
"I am excited to see new builds endorsed by the community, with the proposal for two new pedestrian and active transport bridges across the estuary given the green light," Minster Vincent said.
"I am excited by the master plan's ambitious vision to bring people to the water's edge, encourage recreation and cultural events, create opportunities for local business and attract further investment."
The master plan can be downloaded from the TEMT website.
