PLEASE NOTE: NSWPF-branded vision of the arrest will be available via Hightail later today.

Taskforce Falcon detectives have arrested a man for his alleged role in a fatal shooting which claimed the life of Dawood Zakaria earlier this year.

About 5.10pm on Sunday 25 May 2025, emergency services were called to Woodville Road in Granville following reports of a shooting.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command arrived and located a utility with two men inside suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Two other men in the vehicle were uninjured.

It is believed as the Toyota Hilux turned onto Woodville Road, the occupants of nearby a Mercedes fired several rounds at it, hitting the driver and front seat passenger.

The injured men – aged 32 and 25 – were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital.

The older man, since identified as Dawood Zakaria, passed away in hospital.

State Crime Command's Criminal Groups and Homicide Squads commenced investigations under Strike Force Arrino, before Taskforce Falcon assumed responsibility days later when it was stood up to combat violent crime in Sydney.

Following extensive inquiries under Taskforce Falcon, about 10.15am today (Wednesday 20 August 2025), detectives executed a search warrant in Guildford.

At the address, police arrested a 19-year-old man.

He has been taken to Granville Police Station, where he is expected to be charged with murder and attempted murder.
