Taskforce Guardian Boosts Youth Crime Response in Rockhampton, Gladstone

Capricornia police and Taskforce Guardian detectives have arrested 21 young people on 58 charges following a 4-day operation across the Rockhampton and Gladstone areas.

Between November 28 and December 1, detectives and youth justice workers from Taskforce Guardian joined Rockhampton and Gladstone police in an operation targeting offenders actively committing property offences.

The deployment also involved high-visibility patrols, bail compliance checks, community engagement and diversion for at-risk young people.

Taskforce Guardian, consisting of dedicated detectives and expert Youth Justice workers, work alongside local police to disrupt, investigate and prevent youth offending to enhance community safety.

Taskforce Guardian also works with key support services and local resources to engage at-risk youth with relevant programs, focusing on health, education, disability services and First Nations initiatives.

Detective Inspector Luke Peachey said Capricornia police are committed to utilising assets like Taskforce Guardian strategically, to keep the community safe.

"Public safety is always our priority, and Taskforce Guardian bolstered our frontline resulting in more than 58 charges," Detective Inspector Peachey said.

"Some of these young people are high-risk offenders repeatedly committing property crime offences.

"Our officers are happy to have put them before the court, and given the victims impacted by their crimes some sense of justice.

"We are committed to continuing to tackle youth offending from every angle and thank the community for their continued support and vital information that helps us in our investigations each and every day."
