Tasmania Boosts Trade, Energy Ties in Singapore, Indonesia

Tasmanian Government

Tasmania has strengthened its position as a trusted partner for trade and investment, tourism, and enhanced our energy security following a successful mission to Singapore and Indonesia.

Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett said the Tasmanian Government is delivering for the community by focussing on key priorities, including energy and fuel security, fertiliser supply, investment attraction and export growth.

"This mission was about backing Tasmanian jobs, supporting our exporters and building the partnerships we need for the future," Minister Barnett said.

Considering global uncertainty, fuel security and supply chain resilience were prioritised. Meetings were held with Vitol, Viva Energy and United Petroleum.

"This engagement provided further confidence about Tasmania's fuel supply outlook and commenced positive discussions in relation to a Tasmanian Strategic Fuel Reserve," Minister Barnett said.

"We are focussed on ensuring Tasmania's long-term resilience and economic strength by building on these relationships.

"Additionally, I met directly with senior Government officials including the Minister for Trade and Industry, Tan See Leng, to discuss trade matters including fuel security."

As part of the mission to Singapore, Tasmania's premium food and beverage was on the centre stage at Food and Hospitality Asia.

"A strong Tasmanian presence attracted significant interest from buyers and industry. From paddock to plate, Tasmania continues to stand out globally for quality, provenance and sustainability," Minister Barnett said.

"Tourism also had a strong program running, showcasing the market for Tasmania's luxury tourism offerings.

"In Indonesia, meetings on fertiliser supply with P.T. Pupuk Kalimantan Timur and Incitec Pivot, reinforced the importance of reliable access to urea for Tasmania's agricultural sector and delivering greater supply confidence to Tasmanian farmers for the season ahead.

"These discussions were very constructive and highlighted the mutual benefit in strengthening these relationships.

"It was important to be on the ground, representing Tasmania's interests and ensuring our agricultural sector is well positioned now and into the future."

The mission included investment and advanced manufacturing and defence roundtables, bilateral meetings and Tasmanian showcase events in both Singapore and Jakarta, connecting Tasmanian industry with international investors and partners.

"These engagements are about building relationships and growing those relationships into real outcomes - more investment, more trade and more jobs. Delivering on the things that matter to Tasmanians," Minister Barnett said.
