Tasmania Police Survey Ends with 4100 Public Responses

The Tasmania Police Community Survey closed today after receiving 4100 public responses over the 3-week open time.

Commissioner Donna Adams said that respondents represented every local government area in the state and were aged between 16 and 70+.

"Just 1000 responses were needed to provide accurate statistical analysis and with 4100 responses received, the community engagement with the survey well exceeded this figure," Commissioner Adams said.

The survey asked Tasmanians to respond to a variety of topics and questions including:

  • safety and crime concerns in their local community.
  • how Tasmania Police are performing.
  • how the community prefers to engage with police and receive information.

Tasmania Police wishes to thank the community for the level of engagement with the survey as well as the community groups, Tasmania Police members and individuals who helped promote the survey publicly.

"Thank you to everyone who has provided feedback through our first community survey. Community engagement with this initiative has been phenomenal," Commissioner Adams said.

"We recognise the importance of community trust in Tasmania Police and the need for transparency within our organisation. It's been gratifying to have this opportunity to hear directly from our community on what they feel is important and how we are performing our roles.

"We're looking forward to receiving the results and using what we learn to guide resourcing and operations that help keep communities safe.

"I'm also grateful to the many Tasmania Police members who have spent the last three weeks promoting the survey to the people they meet in the course of their work and encouraging the public to take part. These efforts are reflected in the high level of engagement we have received."

Commissioner Adams said that the survey responses would now be analysed independently by survey provider, EMRS with data and reporting to be provided to Tasmania Police once available.

"We will make a summary of survey results publicly available in early 2024," Commissioner Adams said.

"At this stage, we have not yet assessed the viability of holding future surveys, but we recognise this engagement mechanism has been well-received as part of our commitment to listen and respond to community needs."
