The search for a 22 year old missing swimmer at Somerset in the state's North West has been formally suspended.
The deployment of police divers and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, together with Marine Rescue assets from Ulverstone and Tamar, Surf Patrol Units from Boat Harbour, Somerset, Burnie, Penguin and Ulverstone have been unable to locate the missing woman.
Expert opinion has indicated that the missing person could not have survived, after she went missing while swimming at Somerset Beach on Saturday 11 November.
Inspector Adrian Shadbolt said that significant and intense search efforts by all involved have sadly failed to locate the missing person.
"Yesterday's significant air and sea search, which included analysis of water current data, has also failed to locate the missing woman," Inspector Shadbolt said.
"As such, the search has been formally suspended and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
"Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this very sad time."
