The Tasmanian Government supports the Commonwealth’s decision to make a National Apology to victims and survivors of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse.
The National Apology will be offered to victims and survivors of child sexual abuse, and their families, to acknowledge and apologise for the grave abuses that have been committed against them.
It will also acknowledge the support provided to victims and survivors of child sexual abuse by family members.
The National Apology provides an important opportunity to educate the community about child sexual abuse and its profound and devastating impacts, as well as actions underway to prevent such abuse occurring again.
Importantly, Tasmania is joining with other States to offer survivors who are unable to travel to Canberra a safe and welcoming space to come together and view the live broadcast on Monday, 22 October 2018.
I would encourage and welcome victims, survivors and their support people to attend the event organised in Tasmania.
