Tasmania Tourism Shines at Major Trade Event

Tasmanian tourism representatives and businesses are on show this week at the Australian Tourism Exchange, Australia's biggest business to business travel trade event.

The annual event at Adelaide saw 34 Tasmanian tourism operators, including five first time operators, showcase to more than 700 influential travel distribution buyers and media delegates from around the world.

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Jane Howlett, said the event helps strengthen tourism trade connections for the state.

"For our tourism operators, this is one of the best opportunities of the year to sit down with international travel agents and forge connections to grow their business," Minister Howlett said.

"Many overseas travellers book their holidays via trusted travel agents and travel distributers who provide quality assurance, so it is important that we are supporting our tourism industry to have a strong representation at trade events.

"International visitation is important for our tourism industry, with the state welcoming over 278,000 visitors from international markets last year, spending over $710 million.

"These travellers tend to stay longer and disperse around our state and into the regions, which helps support our regional towns and communities who rely on tourism."

Tourism Tasmania CEO, Sarah Kingston Clark, said Tasmania's presence at the event is more important than ever.

"As global disruptions reshape travel patterns, Tasmania's proximity, compact size, and depth of experiences puts us in a strong position with international markets," Mrs Kingston Clark said.

"The numbers back this up, with Tasmania seeing a 10 per cent increase in international visitors in 2025.

"We want international travel buyers and media to understand and feel connected to Tasmania and see our state as a desirable holiday destination that is unique in Australia.

"This year we have a Tasmania themed café on the trade floor, and we will host a 'happy hour' networking function showcasing Tasmanian food and beverages."

Tourism Tasmania also supports international travel buyers and media delegates to visit Tasmania pre and post the Australian Tourism Exchange event.

The visits are an opportunity for key international partners to have a first-hand experience of Tasmania's tourism offerings across each region of the state.

The Australian Tourism Exchange 2026 runs from 10-14 May 2026.
