Tasmanian Government Announces Veterans' Reference Group Appointments

The Rockliff Liberal Government continues to back our veterans and the veterans community and is pleased to announce appointments to the Veterans' Reference Group.

Veterans' Affairs Minister Guy Barnett said that the VRG provides invaluable advice, information, and insights about a wide range of issues affecting ex-Australian Defence Force veterans and their families, both locally and nationally.

A public Expression of Interest process was recently held, and the Minister is pleased to announce the appointment of the following members of the VRG:

  • Mr John Withers (Chair – re-appointment until 1 July 2024).
  • Dr Jon Lane (re-appointment).
  • Ms Michele Reading.
  • Dr David Midson.
  • Mrs Melissa Foale.
  • Mr Mark Direen.
  • Mr Harry Noe.

The new members join sitting members Peter Williams and Don Ryan. Mr Ryan will become Chair from 1 July 2024.

"I welcome the new members to the VRG and I look forward to them contributing their range of skills and experience with veteran issues to assisting the Tasmanian Government continue our support to veterans," Minister Barnett said.

"I would also like to thank out-going members of the VRG - Ms Natalie Sankey, Mr Phillip De Bomford and Mrs Cheryl Arnol – for their dedication and valuable advice and also support of the Tasmanian Government's programs and activities such as our Tasmanian Veterans Employment Strategy and the Veterans Active Recreation Program." Minister Barnett said.
