Tasmanian Govt Continues Support for Local Businesses

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

The Tasmanian Liberal Government welcomes the latest Tasmanian Survey of Business Expectations which outlined that the majority of respondents are looking to grow their business over the next 6 months.

Premier of Tasmania, Jeremy Rockliff said that our Government's long-term plan has built a nation-leading economy that is in the corner of Tasmanian businesses.

"No longer are our best and brightest having to flee the state to pursue their future, they are now choosing to stay and innovate right here, bringing the world to us," Premier Rockliff said.

"We've now led the CommSec State of the States for 12 out of the past 14 quarters, over 56,000 jobs have been created since we came to government, and we have a plan to create 20,000 more.

"We will continue to back Tasmanian businesses and create the right environment for further growth and prosperity.

"We are doing so by having so far invested $667 million to ensure we have the workforce and skills needed here in Tasmania.

"Our High Vis Army program is aimed at growing the workforce that builds Tasmania, with a goal to increase our construction workforce by 25 per cent.

"We are also working closely with other industry sectors on initiatives aimed at addressing workforce challenges.

"This includes upskilling young Tasmanians with fee-free TAFE and our innovative jobs hubs which are connecting businesses around the state with the right employees.

"In the small business sector we are investing to ensure resilience and success through a range of programs and supports including our hugely popular $1 million Small Business Growth Strategy grant program and our Small Business Advice and Financial Guidance.

"It is pleasing to see that businesses across Tasmania recognise the economic benefits of a multi-purpose stadium at Macquarie Point.

"This project will be a game-changer for our state, it is expected to deliver $300 million in economic activity during construction and around 4,200 jobs, while a further $85 million in additional economic activity and 950 jobs per year will be created once it is operational.

"The Tasmanian Liberal Government is also supporting businesses in keeping their power bills down. Whether that is through payments like our Large Business Customers Electricity Support Scheme or championing revolutionary projects such as Marinus Link.

"With more people attracted to living and working in Tasmania we recognise there are housing challenges, so we are working with local councils and industry to deliver more key worker housing opportunities where they are needed.

"Tasmania has come a long way in the past decade under a Liberal Government, we look forward to continuing to work with the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other stakeholders to deliver our long term plan to strengthen the economy and create the right environment for business growth."
